Forward Deployed Engineer - AI Systems and Backend

This role is full-time, in-office at the CarParts.com Long Beach, CA headquarters (no remote or hybrid). It is a forward-deployed engineering role with AI at its core: you architect systems, write production-grade code, design databases and own projects end to end, with a primary focus on deploying AI capabilities directly into the business and the products that serve real users.

Key responsibilities

• Core software engineering (50%): design, build and maintain scalable software systems and APIs; write well-tested code; optimize relational and non-relational schemas and queries; review code and resolve production issues.
• AI-forward deployment (35%): deploy AI solutions end to end, from identifying the use case to shipping LLM-powered features (search, summarization, recommendations, intelligent automation, decision support) into products and internal workflows; validate AI outputs before they reach production.
• Cross-team collaboration (15%): partner with Marketing, Customer Experience, Data Science, Merchandising, Warehouse Ops and Finance to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
