Forward Deployed Engineer
Chaos1, an Australian defence company focused on rapidly fielding warfighter capability, is hiring Forward Deployed Engineers for its Mission Operations business line. It is a single role advertised across systems integration, autonomy and robotics, and field operations: you'll integrate uncrewed systems, sensors, effectors and C2 into working mission systems and deploy them alongside the end-user on Defence ranges.
What you'll do
- Build and integrate uncrewed and counter-uncrewed systems, sensors, effectors, radios and C2, from the bench to the field.
- Build and maintain hardware, software, autonomy and networking, including TAK and Cursor on Target, SAPIENT, MAVLink and ROS 2 based stacks.
- Deploy forward with the end-user on Defence ranges and allied activities, keeping systems running and fixing what breaks on the spot.
- Write interface control documents, configuration baselines and integration test procedures, and support test and evaluation events.
- Train and support Chaos1 operators and end-users on the systems you field.
What they're looking for
- 3+ years of hands-on engineering across at least two of systems integration, software development, autonomy and robotics, RF and tactical networks, or field operations of uncrewed systems.
- Working proficiency in Linux and Python or C++, with Git, plus IP networking fundamentals including radios and datalinks.
- Willingness to deploy to Defence sites and ranges for extended periods.
- Australian citizenship and ability to obtain an NV1 security clearance.
Onsite and field role based at Chaos1's XFACTORY. Chaos1 sponsors clearances and offers above-mandated superannuation and 25 days of annual leave.
