Forward Deployed Solution Engineer

Symmetry (payroll tax infrastructure, now part of Gusto) is hiring a Forward Deployed Solution Engineer: a highly customer-facing role at the intersection of engineering, solution architecture, agentic AI and delivery. Once a deal is qualified you scope it, embed with the client and write the code yourself, turning complex payroll-tax compliance workflows into production-ready agents and multi-agent systems.

What you'll do

• Give Sales an early technical-feasibility read and own requirements and scoping on complex enterprise opportunities.
• Build working proofs of concept, then embed with clients and build production code that runs their compliance decisions.
• Fix data issues (jurisdiction mapping, tax ID reconciliation) blocking production; deliver the build plus a runbook for Client Success.
• Feed signal back to product and go-to-market; create implementation playbooks, demo flows and deployment docs.

What you bring

• 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role (FDE, solutions engineer, AI engineer, implementation engineer or similar).
• Shipped production systems: REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven systems, auth patterns, data modeling, idempotency and failure modes.
• Agentic workflows beyond prototypes (MCP or function calling, evaluation and reliability); regulated-domain (payroll, tax, compliance) experience.
