Sr Engineer - AI Platforms - Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)

Target's Forward Deployed Engineering team accelerates adoption of Target's enterprise AI platforms by working directly with engineering and product teams to solve complex, high-value AI problems. You will operate at the intersection of AI engineering, platform engineering and product development, helping teams move from experimentation to production.

What you'll do

• Partner directly with engineering and product teams to design, build and productionize AI-powered applications using Target's enterprise AI platform.
• Develop production-grade solutions using generative AI, LLMs, agentic architectures, enterprise context and retrieval, model APIs, tools and platform services.
• Translate ambiguous business and engineering problems into technical designs and working solutions.
• Turn successful implementation patterns into reusable components, APIs, SDKs, frameworks, tooling and reference implementations.
• Provide technical mentorship through designs, implementation guidance and code reviews.

About you

• 4-year degree or equivalent experience; 5+ years of hands-on software development.
• Experience designing, building, deploying and operating production-grade applications, services or distributed systems.
• Experience building AI-enabled applications (LLMs, model APIs, agentic frameworks, retrieval, tool integration).

Pay range: $98,000 – $176,000, plus Target benefits. Remote or hybrid; based out of Brooklyn Park, MN.
