Forward Deployed Engineer

Xata builds Postgres infrastructure for agentic workloads, letting teams spin up isolated database branches in seconds so AI agents and developers can safely work against production-like data. Xata has raised $35M (Series A led by Index Ventures and Redpoint) and is remote-first.

Xata is hiring its first Forward Deployed Engineer, a hands-on role covering both pre-sales and technical delivery: leading technical discovery, running proof-of-value engagements, and guiding customers through real migrations onto Xata.

What you'll do:

• Design and run proof-of-value engagements against customers' real data and constraints.
• Guide and carry out database migrations onto Xata using open-source tooling (pgroll, pgstream), and build whatever is missing.
• Build demo environments, reference architectures, migration scripts and integration patterns.
• Embed with customers and write code with them; feed field insight back to Product and Engineering.
• Define the playbooks and engagement model for a future FDE team.

About you: a strong, hands-on generalist engineer (full-stack, data plumbing, infrastructure), comfortable with databases, SQL, APIs, distributed systems and developer workflows, who enjoys working with customers. Experience with PostgreSQL, migrations or AI agents is a plus.
