Amihan puts about $1M into a Philippine FDE Academy, aiming for a pool of 1,000 to 2,000 engineers

Manila-based Amihan Global Strategies launched a Forward Deployed Engineer Academy backed by roughly $1 million, with a goal of building 1,000 to 2,000 Filipino FDEs who would mainly serve US clients.

Amihan Global Strategies, a Makati-based technology firm, has launched a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Academy and plans to put about $1 million into it, chairman Winston Damarillo told reporters at the launch. The company says it currently has about 50 trained and certified engineers and wants to reach about 100 by the end of the year.

Through partnerships with universities, including Mapúa and National University, Amihan expects to develop a pool of 1,000 to 2,000 FDEs in the Philippines, with the United States as the main market. According to the Daily Tribune, the academy is supported by Anthropic and Amazon Web Services, among others, and Amihan has also signed an agreement with the Department of Science and Technology's Advanced Science and Technology Institute to train government scientists and engineers.

Why it matters for FDEs: this is another sign that FDE training is becoming an export play, much like the academies emerging in India. For engineers in Southeast Asia it opens a structured path into the role, and for buyers it means more offshore FDE capacity competing with in-house teams.
