Anthropic's new cyber program sends on-site engineers to critical infrastructure defenders

Anthropic launched the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program on 8 October, pairing frontier Claude models and threat research with on-site Anthropic engineers for 11 founding partners, including CrowdStrike, Hitachi, Accenture, Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks.

On 8 October Anthropic introduced the Anthropic Cyber Mission, and with it the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program (CIDP). The program gives the security vendors, integrators and equipment makers that protect power grids, water systems and transportation networks access to frontier Claude models, Anthropic's threat research and on-site Anthropic engineers. The founding partners are Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC and Rockwell Automation.

Anthropic says it will "deploy Anthropic engineering talent" to the people who secure critical infrastructure, and that several partners are already using Claude to fix vulnerabilities for their customers. It plans to start with a small cohort, then bring the program to more partners and sectors over the coming months. The same announcement launched OSS Scanner, free model-driven security scans for open-source projects.

Why it matters for FDEs: this is the embedded-engineer model moving into operational technology, where systems often cannot be taken offline to patch and a bad change can stop a plant. It points to a growing niche for deployment engineers who combine AI skills with security and industrial-systems knowledge, both at the labs and at the partner firms that will carry the work to operators.
