Atlassian launches a Forward Deployed Engineering program for enterprise AI
Atlassian is embedding senior applied AI engineers directly with customers to build Rovo agents, automations and Teamwork Graph context, and says engaged accounts see 50% higher AI adoption.
Atlassian announced a Forward Deployed Engineering program that places senior applied AI engineers inside customer environments. Their work includes enriching the organizational context behind Atlassian's Teamwork Graph, building custom Rovo agents and automations, and streamlining workflows for both technical and non-technical teams.
Atlassian frames the program around a gap between AI use and results: citing its own research, it says 85% of knowledge workers use AI but only 6% of executives can point to clear organization-wide ROI. Avani Prabhakar, its Chief People and AI Enablement Officer, said the company is seeing 50% higher AI adoption in accounts its FDEs work with. Alongside the launch, Atlassian released a Forward Deployed Engineering Playbook based on lessons from the program.
For FDEs, this is another sign the role is spreading beyond AI labs and data platforms into mainstream SaaS vendors. Atlassian's version leans heavily on agent building and context engineering inside a customer's existing tools, which is a useful skill set to highlight when applying.
