AWS launches Partner FDE credentials to extend its $1B forward deployed engineering push

AWS has added three Partner FDE pathways on AWS Skill Builder, called Ground, Orchestrate and Prove, each with FDE Validated and FDE Advanced credentials earned through hands-on validation rather than multiple-choice tests.

AWS is extending its $1 billion Forward Deployed Engineering organization, launched in late June, to its partner ecosystem. According to CRN, partners can now pursue three Partner FDE pathways on AWS Skill Builder: Ground (enterprise data, systems, domain ontologies and business context), Orchestrate (agents, tools, workflows, identity and recovery) and Prove (evaluation, observability, security, policy and human control).

Each pathway has two levels, FDE Validated and FDE Advanced, and builders earn them through hands-on work in AWS-provisioned environments rather than by finishing courses. AWS channel chief Ruba Borno told CRN there is "absolutely more demand than supply" for this kind of capability, and that AWS's own FDE work with partners is anchored on getting customers to value in 45 days, a goal it calls "Live in 45".

Partners are already building headcount: Intuitive.AI's CEO said it deployed about 42 FDEs on Fortune 100 projects in a single month, and Caylent's CTO said the pathways give it a framework for the skills production agentic AI needs.

For FDEs, this is another sign the role is becoming a credentialed skill set across the cloud partner world, much like Salesforce's partner FDE network and Anthropic's Frontier Academy. Engineers at AWS partners may soon see these credentials listed in job requirements.
