Cognizant and Google Cloud dedicate 18,000 engineers to a new Gemini Frontier Capability Group for moving AI agents from pilot to production

Cognizant is putting more than 18,000 associates into a new Gemini Frontier Capability Group with Google Cloud, building on the Gemini practice it launched in April around forward-deployed engineers embedded with clients.

Cognizant and Google Cloud announced on October 19 that they are expanding their partnership with a new Gemini Frontier Capability Group, backed by more than 18,000 dedicated Cognizant associates. The companies say the group is meant to bridge the path from pilot to production, helping enterprises deploy agents on Gemini that deliver measurable business value. Its first focus areas are legacy modernization, developer experience, agent-driven business processes and cyber defense, using a standard agent architecture built on the Model Context Protocol and Google Cloud's Model Armor.

The group builds on the dedicated Gemini Enterprise practice Cognizant launched in April 2026, where it said it would provide forward-deployed engineers, senior engineers embedded directly in client environments, working alongside Google Cloud's teams. Cognizant also says more than 55,000 associates completed its Build with Gemini workshop, which it calls the largest Gemini partner workshop to date, as part of a push to scale client work through what it calls Frontier Certified Engineers.

Why it matters for FDEs: the big IT services firms are turning customer-embedded AI deployment into a staffing model measured in tens of thousands of engineers, not small specialist teams. That widens the pool of FDE-style jobs well beyond AI labs and startups, and it makes model-vendor certifications and production agent experience (integration, security, governance) a growing part of how these firms staff deployment work.
