Column is hiring its first Forward Deployed Engineer, reporting to the CEO

Bank-and-software company Column posted a founding Forward Deployed Engineer role in San Francisco: hands-on customer integrations on its banking APIs, frequent travel, and a published base range of $130K–$250K plus equity.

Column, the San Francisco bank built as a software company for fintech builders, is hiring its first Forward Deployed Engineer. The Ashby posting says the hire will define what the role looks like at Column and report directly to CEO William.

The work is customer-embedded and production-oriented: design, build and launch products on Column’s banking APIs with partner engineering teams; own strategic customers from onboarding to launch; debug payment flows, ledgering and reconciliation; and turn field patterns into platform and API improvements. The role is based at Column’s Presidio office with frequent travel to customer sites in the US and abroad.

Posted US base pay is $130,000–$250,000 plus equity. For FDE candidates, this is a clear founding-seat signal outside the usual AI-lab list: a regulated banking stack, CEO reporting line, and an explicit field-to-product loop.
