DXC bets on a forward deployed engineering practice to restart growth as revenue slips

On its latest earnings call DXC said it is building a forward deployed engineering practice, with more than 5,700 Anthropic-certified engineers and 500+ staff through a multi-vendor FDE bootcamp, while revenue fell 4% year over year to $3.03 billion.

DXC Technology is leaning on AI deployment talent to get back to growth, Channel Dive reported on November 4 from the company's earnings call for the quarter ended September 30. Revenue fell 4% year over year to $3.03 billion, and the CFO projected full-year revenue about 5% below the prior year.

CEO Raul Fernandez said DXC has more than 5,700 Anthropic-certified engineers and is fostering a forward deployed engineering practice to help clients get past AI scaling hurdles. More than 500 DXC engineers recently went through a multi-vendor FDE bootcamp, and Fernandez himself attended an Anthropic partner training for engineers in August.

Why it matters for FDEs: IT services firms are racing to rebrand and retrain their benches as FDEs, but Channel Dive notes DXC had 86 confirmed FDEs in July and has not updated that figure, and an analyst said rivals such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and HCL have announced more. The gap between certifications and actual FDE headcount is worth watching when weighing a services-firm FDE offer.
