ElevenLabs' two FDE listings set very different Python bars, and the 'basic' one has crept up over time
An Oct 23 FDE Times analysis compares two ElevenLabs Forward Deployed Engineer listings: the Software Engineer track asks for strong Python and software architecture, while the Strategist track asks only for basic scripting, though a later Europe Deployment Strategist ad wanted 3+ years of technical customer work and LLM agent framework experience.
FDE Times looked at job ads ElevenLabs has posted under the Forward Deployed Engineer title and found two quite different roles. The Software Engineer version owns large projects end to end for strategic partners and asks for strong Python, software architecture and API integration. The Strategist version focuses on finding customer pain points and building demos, and asks only for basic Python for scripts and prototypes.
The analysis notes the lower bar did not stay put: a Deployment Strategist ad for Europe (taken down in July 2026) asked for more than three years of technical customer-facing work plus familiarity with LLM and agent frameworks. It also flags that ElevenLabs strongly preferred candidates on the US East Coast or in Europe, naming New York, London, Warsaw and Berlin, because the role means working daily with customer engineers.
For FDE candidates, the takeaway is that one job title can hide several levels, so read the requirements closely, prepare to the hardest version of the track you want, and treat time zone as a real requirement. Note that the piece draws on archived listings on Built In and Working Nomads and on unofficial interview guides, not an official ElevenLabs description.
