Factory launches a Deployment team with "Member of Deployed Staff" roles, including Forward Deployed Engineers

AI coding-agent company Factory announced a dedicated Deployment team on Oct 26 that embeds engineers at its most strategic accounts. It is hiring two tracks under one title: an Applied AI lead who owns customer outcomes and a Forward Deployed Engineer who does the hands-on engineering inside customer environments.

Factory, which sells a platform for running autonomous software-engineering agents inside large companies, announced a new Deployment team on October 26. The company describes it as a high-autonomy unit sent to its most strategic accounts and highest-leverage product opportunities.

Everyone on the team carries the title Member of Deployed Staff, split into two tracks. The Applied AI track owns deployments at key accounts, blending product management, AI strategy and success measurement, and is accountable for how much autonomy customers actually reach. The Forward Deployed Engineer track does deep engineering inside the customer's environment: custom SDK deployments and automations, large refactors and migrations, integrating a customer's agent harness with Factory, on-premise deployments and new product prototypes.

Deployment staff work alongside the account executive and solutions engineer who own the customer relationship, and stay close to Factory's engineering and product teams. Factory says it wants candidates from customer-facing engineering backgrounds as well as engineers from finance, semiconductors, insurance, healthcare and federal work.

Why it matters for FDEs: coding-agent vendors are now building FDE teams of their own, and the work described here (migrations, on-prem installs, wiring agents into existing toolchains) is a concrete picture of what FDE work looks like when the product itself is an AI software engineer.
