FDE pay in Paris: why Anthropic's €205K and Leadbay's €60K aren't comparable

An FDE Times analysis of two Paris FDE postings shows Anthropic's €205,000–220,000 range comes from a closed, months-old listing, while Leadbay's €50,000–70,000 plus 0.1–0.5% equity is for a role open to people with no experience.

Two Paris Forward Deployed Engineer postings look wildly different on paper: Anthropic's "FDE, Applied AI" role listed a base of €205,000–220,000, while Paris startup Leadbay lists €50,000–70,000. FDE Times argues the gap says less than it seems, because the two numbers were recorded at different times and pay different kinds of people.

The Anthropic range survives only as a copy of a posting that no longer accepts applications and dates from early 2026; an October 2026 review of Anthropic's current FDE postings found no disclosed range for Paris or Munich. Leadbay's role, by contrast, hires people with no prior experience, adds 0.1–0.5% equity, and expects customer visits of roughly six days a month. The piece also notes that French gross pay is neither take-home pay nor employer cost, and that startup equity can take years to become sellable.

For FDEs weighing European offers, the takeaway is methodological: check when a salary range was recorded, what it includes, and what level it targets before comparing it to anything. Published Paris FDE pay data is still thin, so a single stale data point shouldn't anchor a negotiation.
