HappyRobot is hiring a founding Forward Deployed Engineer in Sydney, its first technical hire in Australia
YC- and a16z-backed HappyRobot, which builds AI workers for enterprise operations, posted a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer role in Sydney: the first technical hire in the region, working directly with the Country General Manager to set up the local deployment playbook.
HappyRobot, an AI workforce platform that began in logistics and says it has raised more than $200M from backers including a16z, Y Combinator, Base10, Prysm Capital and Eurazeo, has opened a Founding Forward Deployed Engineer role in Sydney (hybrid, full-time). The posting says this is the company's first technical hire in Australia and only its second local team member, working directly with the Country General Manager.
The job is classic early-region FDE work: onboard enterprise customers, design and deploy AI workers (voice and email agents that also take actions in enterprise systems), build integrations and MVPs in React, TypeScript, Node.js and Python, and tune LLM prompts, voices and transcribers. Beyond delivery, the hire is expected to write the local playbook for onboarding, deployment and product feedback loops, and lay the groundwork for future hires.
For FDEs, this shows how AI-native startups enter new markets: the deployment engineer comes right after the sales lead (HappyRobot also lists a Sydney Strategic Account Executive), before any local product team. HappyRobot's public job board currently lists about 17 Forward Deployed Engineer postings in places including San Francisco, New York, Chicago, London, Madrid, Munich, Zurich, Dubai, Mexico and Brazil, which shows how much of its international expansion runs through FDEs.
