Hitachi merges GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services into Hitachi Digital, with FDE teams at its core

Hitachi plans to launch Hitachi Digital, a 35,000-person global digital services company combining GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services, on April 1, 2027, and says its client work will be driven by teams centered on Forward Deployed Engineers.

Hitachi announced on October 27-28, 2026 that it will launch Hitachi Digital Inc. on April 1, 2027, uniting its U.S. subsidiaries GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services under one Hitachi-branded company. The new business has about 35,000 professionals in 27 countries and more than 880 active clients.

The press release puts Forward Deployed Engineers at the center of the plan: dedicated teams built around FDEs will work directly in clients' operational environments, alongside data scientists and AI specialists, to put enterprise AI and Physical AI into practice in industries like manufacturing, mobility and energy, as well as inside the Hitachi Group itself.

Hitachi says it will keep scaling through investment in AI, data and cloud talent, explicitly including FDEs, plus alliances and acquisitions. For FDEs, it's another sign that large IT services and industrial firms, not just AI labs, are reorganizing delivery around the role, with a particular pull toward engineers who can work in OT-heavy, mission-critical settings.
