IIIT-Bangalore and upGrad launch a six-month executive programme in Forward Deployed AI Engineering
IIIT-Bangalore and upGrad announced a live online executive postgraduate programme for experienced engineers who want to build and deploy AI directly for enterprise clients, with about 120 hours of learning and a live client capstone.
The International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) and edtech company upGrad have launched an Executive Post Graduate Programme in Forward Deployed AI Engineering. It runs as a six-month live online cohort with roughly 120 hours of learning, guided labs, a one-day campus immersion and a capstone in which participants build and deploy an AI solution for a live client.
The five courses cover production engineering, LLMs, RAG pipelines, agentic AI, client discovery and solution architecture, enterprise deployment, AI security and client delivery. It targets software and AI/ML engineers and people with technical pre-sales or solutions experience; applicants need a relevant technology degree, Python skills and experience building a data pipeline or REST API. Graduates get a postgraduate programme certificate from IIIT-B.
Why it matters for FDEs: it is another sign that the forward deployed engineer is being treated as a distinct career track in India, alongside recent surveys pointing to strong enterprise demand and a talent gap. The syllabus is also a useful map of what employers expect from FDEs: shipping production AI systems plus the customer discovery and delivery skills that separate the role from a pure engineering job.
