Indeed data: India FDE job postings jumped 1,807% year over year by June 2026
Indeed reports nearly a 19-fold rise in Forward Deployed Engineer listings in India from June 2025 to June 2026, while Glassdoor shows average India FDE base pay around ₹12 lakh.
The Indian Express, citing Indeed Hiring Lab data published 14 October 2026, reports that Forward Deployed Engineer job postings in India rose about 1,807% between June 2025 and June 2026 — nearly 19 times. Growth was gradual early in 2026, accelerated from March, peaked in June, then moderated but stayed elevated (over 6× by August in the same chart).
Indeed ties the surge to companies putting engineers closer to customers and business problems, not only to generic AI hype. The article notes FDE work mixes technical build with customer discovery, deployment ownership, and feedback into product teams. Glassdoor’s India FDE page (January 2026 update, 28 submissions) puts average base pay near ₹12 lakh a year, in a ₹9–16 lakh range; Indeed said its own FDE salary sample was too small for a reliable median.
For FDEs and hiring managers, this is a clear signal that India is no longer a side market for the role: listings spiked hard, hubs like Bengaluru and Hyderabad show higher total-pay anecdotes for early-career submissions, and pay still varies widely by employer type. It also sits alongside earlier India FDE snapshots on fresher scarcity and academy-style training — demand is up, entry-level seats remain scarce.
