Industrial robotics startup AFORMIC raises $6.95M seed and will expand its forward deployed engineering team

AFORMIC, a South Carolina maker of autonomous factory robots, announced a $6.95 million seed round led by Veteran Ventures Capital on November 4. It says the money will help grow its forward deployed engineering and sales organizations as it pushes into new uses, including AI data center construction and maintenance.

AFORMIC, based in Duncan, South Carolina, builds, deploys and maintains autonomous industrial robots: mobile robots, autonomous forktrucks and its Qursor software platform, which handle internal logistics, material transport and line feeding inside factories and warehouses. On November 4 it announced a $6.95 million seed round led by Veteran Ventures Capital, with ff Venture Capital, Mana Ventures, Red Beard Ventures, Alamo Angels and strategic angels taking part.

The company says it has more than $34 million in orders to date and hundreds of robots in production at manufacturers including Toyota, Hitachi, 3M, Hyundai Mobis and Oshkosh Defense. It lists expansion of its forward deployed engineering and sales organizations first among the uses of the new money, alongside more work on Qursor and new hardware for jobs such as building and maintaining AI data centers.

Why it matters for FDEs: forward deployed engineering is spreading beyond software and AI labs into physical automation, where getting robots to work inside a specific plant's layout, systems and processes is the hard part. Early-stage robotics companies like AFORMIC are a growing source of on-site FDE roles for engineers who like hardware, integration and factory floors.
