Insight Global launches "FDE Way" program to turn experienced software engineers into forward deployed engineers
Insight Global announced an in-house, months-long program that upskills experienced software engineers into FDEs for its IG Labs AI unit, rather than competing only for scarce experienced FDE hires.
Insight Global, the Atlanta-based talent, consulting and AI company, announced on October 29 a new training and development program, called the FDE Way, that turns experienced software engineers into forward deployed engineers. Graduates feed IG Labs, the company's AI software and services production unit, where FDEs work directly with customers to build, implement and deploy AI solutions.
The inaugural cohort is made up of experienced engineers selected for their technical ability. Over an intensive, months-long program they combine Insight Global's own curriculum with hands-on work alongside senior FDEs on real customer problems. Those who meet the bar can move into full-time FDE roles at IG Labs. Marcus Bergstrom, Managing Director of IG Labs, said making agentic AI work reliably inside an enterprise depends on strong software fundamentals, so the program teaches applied AI on top of that foundation.
The company says it plans further investment in the program in 2027. For engineers, it is another sign that employers are building their own FDE pipelines because experienced forward deployed talent is scarce, and that solid software engineering experience is the entry ticket that internal programs like this one are looking for.
