Japan's Hakuhodo DY Group launches an FDE-style AI transformation service backed by 200+ specialists

On Oct 23, Hakuhodo DY Holdings said its Human-Centered AI Professionals unit will form teams of "FDE specialists" drawn from marketing, creative, consulting and technology to embed in client business units, from finding problems through building AI agents to getting the solution adopted. The unit has more than 200 specialists.

Hakuhodo DY Holdings, the Japanese advertising and marketing group, announced on October 23 that its AI unit, Human-Centered AI Professionals (HCAI Professionals), is launching an AI transformation service built around what it calls FDE specialists. Teams are put together for each client from more than 200 specialists and work inside the client's business or functional departments, covering problem discovery, solution design, implementation and getting the result adopted on the ground.

The company describes roles such as "FDE-type marketing", "FDE-type creative" and "FDE-type consulting" talent who build AI agents and redesign business processes alongside client staff. It says the service draws on the group's own AI transformation, with Hakuhodo DY itself as "customer zero", and links to its CREATIVITY ENGINE BLOOM platform, which is built on consumer data from about 200,000 people. The group plans to keep training and expanding its FDE specialists. Duration and pricing were not disclosed.

Why it matters: following Dentsu's 3,000-person FDE skills programme earlier this month, both of Japan's largest agency groups are now using the FDE label. In Hakuhodo's version it covers domain experts, not only software engineers. For FDEs, this is another sign that the embedded, build-until-it's-used model is spreading into marketing and creative work, and that domain expertise combined with agent-building skills is becoming a hireable profile.
