Kingsoft Office is scaling its FDE model for WPS Comate through implementation partners

Kingsoft Office, the maker of WPS, embeds forward deployed engineers with enterprise customers to turn expert know-how into AI agent skills for WPS Comate. Because that model depends on headcount, it is now training partners to do the on-site build, starting with a Kingdee ERP pilot at a food company.

A feature published October 20 on MyDrivers (Kuai Keji) describes how Kingsoft Office (金山办公) delivers its enterprise AI product WPS Comate through forward deployed engineers. FDEs sit with a customer's senior business experts and turn undocumented judgment, from engineers, legal specialists and top salespeople, into reusable agent skills. Under its "三联四合" delivery model, three senior experts on the customer side and four roles on the FDE side share a single KPI, with the goal of taking a use case from demo to production within three months.

The article says plainly that the model has a limit: it runs on added headcount, so it is hard to scale beyond the very largest accounts. Kingsoft Office's answer is to turn FDE into an ecosystem. Partners who already know customers' business systems do the on-site build, while Kingsoft Office steps back to product enablement and pre-sales support.

The first example is Wuhan Xianzhi Technology (武汉先知科技), a firm with a long track record of Kingdee customization work. In August the two companies began a pilot at a food company with more than RMB 1 billion in annual revenue, connecting WPS Comate to its Kingdee SQL database for natural-language sales queries. According to the article, the first implementation took under 15 person-days, compared with about 40 for traditional development. Dashboards, a data cockpit, sales Q&A and OCR write-back of documents were all running within about a month, and the partner, not Kingsoft Office, was the team in front of the customer.

Why it matters for FDEs: Salesforce's Partner FDE program is moving the same way. Vendors are starting to treat the FDE as a teacher who scales delivery through partners ("one FDE teaches one partner, one partner replicates across many customers") rather than as a permanent on-site resource. Expect more FDE roles that combine hands-on building with partner enablement.
