Logistics FDE jobs at Loadsmart, Vooma and Augment centre on the customer's TMS, but the work starts in carrier emails

An Oct 22 FDE Times analysis reads three logistics FDE job ads alongside freight-software documentation and finds the core job is pulling data out of emails, calls and paperwork and writing it back into legacy TMS, WMS and ERP systems.

FDE Times compared Forward Deployed Engineer postings from Loadsmart, Vooma and Augment. Loadsmart puts structured customer discovery ahead of any code and allows up to 50% travel; Vooma wants FDEs on customer sites up to 25% of the time and asks them to agree success metrics during discovery; Augment lists TMS, WMS and ERP experience directly in its requirements.

Drawing on a GetTransport industry guide and vendor material, the piece argues that the valuable data in freight still lives in carrier emails, check calls and documents such as rate confirmations, and that the hardest part of a deployment is writing extracted data back into the customer's old TMS reliably, not the AI extraction itself.

For FDEs eyeing logistics, the takeaway is practical: learn the industry vocabulary (TMS vs WMS vs ERP, check calls, rate confirmations), build a small email-to-TMS-import project that handles missing and ambiguous fields, and look for postings that mention structured discovery, legacy TMS/ERP or a specific on-site share, which signal real deployment work.
