London FDE pay spans £65K to £255K across three job ads, and the gap tracks how much building the role involves
An October 21 FDE Times analysis sets London FDE ads from Anthropic (£225K–£255K base), Arva AI (£80K–£110K plus 0.10%–0.30% equity) and Adverity (£65K–£90K plus bonus) against Indeed UK's £114K average, finding that the more the job means building inside the client's systems, the higher the pay.
FDE Times compared three London job ads that all carry the title Forward Deployed Engineer. Anthropic's lists a base salary of £225,000–£255,000, Arva AI offers £80,000–£110,000 plus 0.10%–0.30% equity (and says it may go above the range for exceptional candidates), and Adverity's ad description gives £65,000–£90,000 plus a performance bonus, though the aggregator page header shows a different figure.
As a benchmark, Indeed UK puts the average London FDE salary at £114,000, with a typical range of about £70,800 to £183,700. Anthropic's lower bound sits above that ceiling, while Arva AI's top end is still below the average. The piece also warns against comparing ads with Levels.fyi's £143,990 UK median, because that figure is total compensation, not base salary.
The pattern the author draws is about the work, not the employer type: Adverity's FDE mostly guides customers through onboarding, Arva AI's owns a deployment from first engagement through go-live and feeds the roadmap, and Anthropic's builds production Claude applications inside client systems. The top-paying role also asks for 25–50% travel plus office time, and Arva AI expects 4–5 office days a week.
Why it matters: the FDE title covers very different jobs in London. Reading the verbs in an ad (guide and onboard versus build, deploy and own) and weighing travel, office days and equity is a better way to compare offers than the headline salary.
