Mastra launches a 90-day FDE program to get customers' AI agents into production

Mastra, the open-source agent framework, now pairs its enterprise platform with a forward deployed engineer who works with a customer's team every week, and customers whose agent isn't live within 90 days pay only the implementation fee.

Mastra, the company behind the open-source AI agent framework of the same name, announced Mastra Launch on October 20. The package bundles full access to the Mastra Enterprise Platform (production deployment, observability and controls, hosted by Mastra or on the customer's own infrastructure) with hands-on help from a Mastra engineer who works alongside the customer's team every week.

The offer has a deadline built in. CEO Sam Bhagwat writes that if the agent isn't in production within 90 days, the customer pays only the implementation fee, which he says covers the salary of their FDE, and not the platform fees. The program is aimed at teams that already have a Mastra prototype and a defined use case but haven't shipped it yet.

Why it matters for FDEs: it's another sign that agent tooling vendors, not just the big AI labs, now sell forward deployed engineering as a product with a clear deliverable and timeline. For engineers, it means FDE work at developer-tool startups is increasingly judged on getting a customer's system live by a fixed date.
