NexusTek launches forward deployed engineering pods for mid-market AI rollouts
Denver IT provider NexusTek launched AI Pilot to Production, embedding small FDE pods inside mid-market customers to take AI pilots into production, then running them as a managed service.
NexusTek, a Denver-based IT services provider, launched AI Pilot to Production on October 29, a program within its Data and AI practice that brings the forward deployed engineering model to mid-market companies. Its pitch is that these firms have bought AI licenses and run pilots, but large system integrators cost too much and advisory firms lack the engineers to implement.
The program runs in three phases delivered by one team. Advise starts with an AI Accelerator covering governance over AI access and spend, a risk assessment aligned to the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and a use-case roadmap with ROI models. Build is a small pod (an AI engineer, an AI solutions architect, and a data and platform engineer, backed by cloud and security specialists) that works inside the customer's environment and is accountable for reaching production. Run covers ongoing monitoring and model maintenance as managed services.
NexusTek says one produce distributor replaced a paper-based workflow with a production AI system, reaching 98 to 99 percent data accuracy and cutting processing time from six hours to minutes.
Why it matters: the FDE model is spreading from AI labs and hyperscalers down to managed service providers serving smaller companies, which widens the pool of FDE-style roles beyond big-name employers, often in pod structures that pair FDEs with architects and data engineers.
