Ondas and Palantir launch Regna AI, a sovereign defense AI company built around forward-deployed engineering

Regna AI will fine-tune open-weight models that run inside customers' own environments and on edge hardware, with Regna and Palantir working together on forward-deployed engineering to fit each customer's workflows.

Ondas and Palantir announced Regna AI on October 12, a standalone private company that is initially wholly owned by Ondas and "powered by Palantir." It will help governments and enterprises build and deploy mission-specialized, fine-tuned AI models inside their own sovereign environments, starting with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance work.

The models are meant to run on edge hardware such as drones, stratospheric balloons, ground vehicles, surface vessels and command-and-control nodes, including in places with poor or intermittent connectivity. Ondas is the first customer and will use the models for autonomous mission orchestration at the edge. Palantir supplies model-training infrastructure, built on its AIP platform, and delivery support.

The FDE angle is explicit: the release says Regna AI and Palantir will collaborate on forward-deployed engineering to tailor the models to each customer's workflows, with initial customer deployments planned over the coming months. Regna also plans to expand beyond defense into security, critical infrastructure and industrial markets.

For FDEs, this is another case of the Palantir model being carried into a new company, and a sign that sovereign and edge AI work, which can't simply call a hosted frontier model, depends on engineers who deploy inside the customer's own environment.
