Only 8% of FDE openings are remote, one job board's snapshot finds

The A10X Brief counted 277 forward deployed engineer openings at 85 companies on its board on 9 October 2026; just 21 were remote, and 96 were in San Francisco or New York.

The A10X Brief, a newsletter for forward deployed engineers, looked at its live job board on 9 October 2026 and found 277 FDE openings across 85 companies. Only 21 of them, about 8%, were remote, while 96 were based in San Francisco or New York. Of the 21 remote roles, 14 were limited to candidates in the US or North America.

Six of the remote employers published a base salary range: Roboflow ($180K to $250K), Alloy Identity for a founding role ($141K to $250K), OpenHands ($175K to $240K), RelationalAI ($170K to $200K), Temporal ($133K to $174K across two roles) and Defense Unicorns ($123K to $167K).

The same issue notes that hiring is spreading beyond AI labs to software vendors like Atlassian and consultancies like Devoteam, but the work itself still happens at the customer. For job seekers, the takeaway is that FDE remains mostly an on-site, travel-heavy role, and remote openings are scarce and usually region-locked.
