Palantir alumni's fintech Mural raises $15M Series A led by Tether, built on a forward-deployed model
Mural, a compliant system of record for fintechs founded by two former Palantir engineers, closed a $15M Series A led by Tether (total funding $28M). Its forward deployed engineers embed with customers in each market and launch integrations alongside them.
Mural, a New York startup that gives fintechs and platforms one compliant system for accounts, payments, identity and compliance, announced a $15 million Series A led by Tether, with North Island Ventures and existing investors joining. The round brings its total funding to $28 million, which the company says will go to global expansion and the regulatory and payments infrastructure needed for agentic finance, where AI agents hold and move money on behalf of people and businesses.
Co-founders Sinclair Toffa (CEO) and Chris Fernandes worked as engineers at Palantir, integrating disconnected systems for Fortune 100 companies. The announcement says Mural brought Palantir's forward-deployed model to finance: its engineers embed with customers on the ground in each market and launch the integration with them. Customers named include Deel, Opera and Axexo, and Mural says it has processed $2.1 billion in payment volume for end users in 128 countries since launching its API in 2025.
Why it matters for FDEs: Mural is a clear example of the FDE model spreading beyond AI labs into regulated fintech and payments infrastructure. Its FDE job posting describes embedding with one strategic customer at a time, reporting to the CTO, and turning launch-specific work (such as virtual account infrastructure for a new market) into core product, which is the build-in-the-core-codebase version of the role rather than a services seat.
