Palantir credits forward deployed engineers for record Q2 growth

Palantir's revenue rose 93% year over year in Q2 2026 to almost $2 billion, and CTO Shyam Sankar credited its AI Platform and FDE teams, saying rivals only have "sparkling sales engineers."

Palantir, the company credited with pioneering the forward deployed engineer model, reported that revenue grew 93% year over year to almost $2 billion in the second quarter of 2026. U.S. commercial revenue rose 149% to $764 million and U.S. government revenue rose 90% to $809 million, Channel Dive reported.

On the earnings call, CTO Shyam Sankar credited the Artificial Intelligence Platform and Palantir's FDE teams for the growth, saying "only Palantir has FDEs" and that everyone else has "sparkling sales engineers." An Omdia analyst quoted in the piece was more cautious, saying FDEs are only one factor behind the results and that the model still works alongside channel partners rather than replacing them.

For FDEs, the jab is a reminder that the title now means very different things at different employers. With AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic all building FDE functions this year, candidates should ask how much production engineering a role really involves and how much is pre-sales support.
