Reddit is hiring internal FDEs to embed with its own Sales, Marketing and Finance teams

Two new Reddit Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Enablement) listings, at Senior and Lead level, point the FDE model inward: the customers are Reddit's own business functions, and success means handing over workflows and reducing their dependency on the FDE team.

Reddit has opened two Forward Deployed Engineer roles labelled "AI Enablement", one Senior and one Lead, according to an FDE Times read of its Greenhouse postings. The Senior listing names Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Finance and the AI Platform team as the groups the engineers will serve, so the "customer" is a colleague in another department rather than an outside company.

Both postings define a finished job in an unusual way: the FDE must transfer maintainable workflows to the owners of each function, leave behind evaluation criteria and review gates, and steadily reduce those teams' long-term reliance on the FDE group. Needs that keep coming up are routed to a central AI Platform Hub, and anything that works well in one department is meant to be packaged into reusable agents, templates and connectors.

For FDEs, this is another sign that the role is spreading beyond vendor-side customer work into internal AI enablement teams. Discovery and embedding skills carry over unchanged, but the bar shifts toward handover and enablement: you are judged on how well a finance or sales team can run what you built without you.
