Tokyo startup VALANCE launches an "AI-native business OS" built to support FDE-style deployments

VALANCE, a Tokyo company founded in July 2025, officially launched its AI-native business OS on Nov 4, pitching it as backend infrastructure for forward deployed engineers and partner firms who embed with customers to build and run AI business apps.

VALANCE Inc., a Shibuya-based AI company founded in July 2025, officially released its enterprise product "VALANCE" on November 4, 2026. It has three layers: a headless layer where customer-specific business apps built with AI can be imported via ZIP or Git, a build-and-operations platform called VCA that ships authentication, permissions, databases, audit logs and security checks out of the box, and a data layer called Core that structures scattered company data (including scanned documents via custom OCR) for AI use. It runs in the cloud or on-premises.

CEO Watanabe (渡邉俊) says AI agents alone don't change how work gets done: someone has to understand the business, sort out the real problems and turn them into apps people use. VALANCE describes itself as supporting FDE (Forward Deployed Engineer) work, where engineers go into the customer's site and stay with them from understanding the workflow through building and running the app, and it also offers the platform to partners that already have customer relationships. The company says it is already partnering with financial institutions, office-equipment trading firms, system integrators and consultancies, and claims development time is about one fifth of a traditional waterfall project (its own comparison).

Why it matters for FDEs: this is part of a wave of Japanese vendors packaging the FDE model. Here the pitch is to take the non-functional backend work off the field engineer's plate so they can focus on requirements and front-end apps, which hints at how the role may split between platform and embedded work as tooling matures.
