Truist puts FDEs in every business domain and plans to bring the model to its 1,400-person Hyderabad GCC

Truist CTOO Steve Hagerman told Moneycontrol the bank has forward-deployed engineers aligned to each business domain through its US AI lab, The Forge, and will extend that model to its fast-growing Hyderabad capability centre built with Infosys.

US bank Truist has scaled its Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad to more than 1,400 employees in six months, with Infosys building it under a multi-year build, operate and transfer arrangement. In an interview with Moneycontrol published October 19, Chief Technology and Operations Officer Steve Hagerman said that headcount is not even halfway to the short-term goal, and that the centre is meant to house integrated teams that own entire business functions end to end.

Hagerman also described Truist's forward deployed engineering setup. The bank runs an AI innovation lab in the US called The Forge, where forward-deployed engineers work alongside business teams to build and scale AI capabilities. "We have FDEs aligned to each of our business domains that have business acumen, but also AI and automation expertise," he said, adding that the model will eventually be extended to the India GCC.

Why it matters for FDEs: most FDE hiring news comes from AI vendors and IT services firms, but here a large bank is using the title for in-house engineers embedded with its own business lines. If Truist follows through, global capability centres in India could become a new source of FDE roles inside enterprises rather than at their suppliers.
