Zip splits the FDE role in two: a procurement-expert AI FDE and a full-stack Software Engineer, Forward Deployed
FDE Times finds Zip hiring forward deployed engineers on two tracks: an AI FDE role that requires 3+ years in procurement or finance ops, and a Software Engineer, Forward Deployed role ($150K-$250K base listed) that wants shipped production systems and live customer calls.
Procurement software company Zip is hiring forward deployed engineers through two different listings, according to an FDE Times analysis. The AI Forward Deployed Engineer role requires at least three years in procurement, finance operations or a similar function, plus hands-on experience building agents or automated workflows for one's own work. Its technical bar is handling integrations, reading API docs and debugging workflows, and certifications such as CPP, CPSM or CPA are only a plus.
The Software Engineer, Forward Deployed role works the other way round: it wants engineers who have taken complex production systems live, can work across the full stack, and will join calls with procurement, finance and IT teams to diagnose problems in real time. The listing gives a base salary of $150,000 to $250,000, which FDE Times advises checking against Zip's careers page.
Why it matters for FDEs: the same title can screen for very different hard-to-teach skills, domain trust with AP directors, CPOs and CFOs on one track and production engineering on the other. Both listings stress owning engagements from scoping to handover, so candidates should pick the right track and tailor a CV for it.
