Chalk's FDE board: nine seats across six countries, Director posted at $300K–$350K
A November 6 review of Chalk's public Ashby board by FDE Dispatch counts nine Forward Deployed openings — six engineers, two strategists and a director — with US pay posted from $170K to $350K and four seats remote outside the US.
Data platform Chalk is hiring forward deployed staff across the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, according to an analysis of its public job board published by FDE Dispatch on 6 November 2026. The site counted nine FDE-family postings in its 3 November snapshot, tying Chalk for 12th of 114 employers alongside Cloudflare, Saronic and Snowflake, and found all nine still open on 6 November.
The openings split into three tracks: six Forward Deployed Engineer seats (New York on-site, Dublin on-site, and remote roles in London, Singapore, Japan and Tel Aviv), two Forward Deployed Strategist seats in San Francisco and New York that sit under Sales, and a Director, Forward Deployed Engineering in San Francisco. Every engineer seat asks for Python and SQL; New York wants 2+ years of backend experience while the international seats want 4+, and the director role asks for 10+ years with 3+ leading customer-facing teams.
Only the US seats post pay: $170K–$280K for the New York engineer, $180K–$250K for strategists and $300K–$350K for the director, with equity mentioned. Unusually for an FDE role, the New York posting says the job is in the office five days a week and that customer-site travel is rare, because engineers support several customers from the office.
For FDE candidates, Chalk is a useful example of how infrastructure startups are shaping the role: a backend-heavy engineering track, a separate sales-side strategist track, and a mix of strict on-site and fully remote international seats.
