Insight Partners launches a Forward Deployed Practice and an FDE Advisory Council
Insight Partners has started a dedicated advisory practice to help its portfolio companies decide whether to build a forward deployed engineering motion, and says more than 100 open roles across its portfolio carry "Forward Deployed" in the title.
Venture firm Insight Partners announced its Forward Deployed Practice on October 5, 2026. The program helps portfolio companies evaluate whether a forward deployed engineering (FDE) motion fits their business and, for those that are ready, build the strategy, hiring profile and operating rhythm to run one.
The practice is anchored by what Insight calls the industry's first FDE Advisory Council, with founding members drawn from senior leaders at Databricks, ServiceNow, Microsoft, SAP and Salesforce. Its reviews cover technical readiness, data infrastructure and organizational design.
Insight says demand is already visible in hiring: more than 100 open roles across its portfolio have "Forward Deployed" in the job title. The firm published its first FDE guide in June 2026 and ran a virtual series on the topic in July.
For FDEs, this is another sign that the role is spreading from AI labs and Palantir-style companies into the wider software market, as investors push early, growth and late-stage startups to stand up their own deployment teams.
