OpenAI's Deployment Company opens a Cybersecurity Forward Deployed Engineer role at $170K–$400K
DeployCo, OpenAI's deployment subsidiary, is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead enterprise cybersecurity deployments from New York or San Francisco, with 4+ years' experience required, a path into management, and up to 50% travel.
The OpenAI Deployment Company (DeployCo), the OpenAI-controlled subsidiary set up in May 2026 to embed forward deployed engineers inside large enterprises, has posted a new Forward Deployed Engineer – Cybersecurity – US role. It is based in New York or San Francisco on a hybrid schedule of three office days a week, offers relocation, and expects up to 50% travel. The listed base range is $170K–$400K plus equity, the same band DeployCo shows for its general US FDE opening.
The job is a security-specific version of DeployCo's founding FDE role. The hire acts as technical lead on high-stakes customer cybersecurity deployments, owns both the technical result and the business outcome, and builds and evaluates AI security workflows that plug into a customer's existing security systems with proper access controls and human oversight. DeployCo says the person will move quickly toward management and help grow the team.
The requirements lean on real security delivery, not just AI skills: 4+ years of engineering, experience shipping cybersecurity solutions in Fortune 500 or similarly complex enterprises from prototype to production, production JavaScript or Python across frontend and backend, and the ability to explain established and AI-enabled threats to both practitioners and executives.
Why it matters for FDEs: DeployCo's board so far has listed general FDE roles in the US, UK, Paris and Singapore. A dedicated security track suggests it is starting to split FDE work by domain, and security engineers with customer-facing delivery experience now have a direct route into one of the best-funded FDE organizations.
