Salesforce FDEs took an Australian credit union's voice agent from concept to launch in six weeks

Salesforce says its Forward Deployed Engineers helped Southern Cross Credit Union build, test and launch Nova, an Agentforce Voice agent that now answers balance enquiries and handles about 7% of all customer calls, in six weeks.

In an October 27 customer story, Salesforce describes how Southern Cross Credit Union (SCCU), a customer-owned financial services provider, became one of the first organisations in Australia and New Zealand to go live with Agentforce Voice. Its voice agent, Nova, verifies callers and reads out account balances, and in its first few months it has been handling about 7% of all customer calls.

SCCU worked with Salesforce Forward Deployed Engineers to build, test and launch Nova in six weeks. The work started with workshops at SCCU's head office to shape the agent's tone, moved to testing that simulated different accents and dialects, and rolled out to employees before customers. SCCU's chief customer officer said the FDEs "felt like part of our team", with daily meetings and constant contact over Slack.

The engineering details show what FDE work looks like in a regulated industry: the agent's design keeps the LLM away from customer data, collects inputs one at a time to cut speech-to-text errors, and uses deterministic tools connected to Service Cloud to read balances. Salesforce also credits four years of Service Cloud use and a real-time MuleSoft link to the core banking system for the speed.

For FDEs, it's a concrete example of the job: short, embedded engagements where the hard parts are guardrails, integrations and adoption, and where a fast launch depends on the customer's data foundations already being in place.
